New Delhi, 14 November 2025: Canon India has announced the successful completion of a five-year community development programme in Kalyanpur Village, Baruipur, West Bengal, under its flagship ‘Adopt a Village’ initiative. The milestone event was attended by Mr. Toshiaki Nomura, President & CEO, Canon India, alongside community members, government school teachers, and students of the Junior Basic School, Kalyanpur.

The initiative, driven by Canon India’s 4Es CSR framework—Education, Eye Care, Environment, and Empowerment—has focused on holistic development across multiple sectors. More than 600 children have benefited from the Resource Centre offering structured computer education and extracurricular learning. The ‘Kadam’ learning enhancement programme and teacher training initiatives have further strengthened classroom outcomes, while the refurbished Anganwadi centre now supports improved early childhood education.

As part of its eye care interventions, Canon India established a Vision Centre and organised regular screening camps, enabling over 5,500 beneficiaries to access primary eye care services. In the area of community empowerment, more than 500 local residents have been trained through computer literacy and beautician courses aimed at enhancing employability and financial independence.

Environmental sustainability has also been a key focus, with Canon India planting over 900 trees, creating more than 150 kitchen gardens, and installing solar panels and solar-powered streetlights to encourage greener, energy-efficient practices within the village.

Speaking about the organisation’s five-year journey in the village, Mr. Toshiaki Nomura, President & CEO, Canon India, said, “At Canon, societal development stands at the heart of our flagship ‘Adopt a Village’ initiative. With our aim to build a self-reliant nation, the progress in Kalyanpur Village, made over the past five years, stands as a reflection of what we can achieve together. Bringing forth this essential infrastructure with critical skills, we have empowered the community and deepened our commitment to sustainable and long-term progress. Following our recent adoption of the 10th Village under this initiative, we aim to strengthen our resolve for sustained growth across the regions of India, creating brighter opportunities for every resident of the country.”

Launched in 2012, Canon India’s ‘Adopt a Village’ initiative has since expanded to 10 villages across India, impacting over 3 lakh lives through education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and livelihood development.

Kalyanpur Village now joins the list of Canon India’s successfully transformed communities, marking the completion of a structured, multi-year engagement aimed at building self-reliant villages anchored in sustainable development.
