Kolkata, September 30, 2026: Canon India has adopted Tongtala village in Baruipur, West Bengal, under its ‘Adopt a Village’ initiative, taking the number of villages covered by the programme to 11.

The initiative will focus on community development through need-based interventions identified in consultation with residents and local stakeholders. Canon India said the work will focus on creating sustainable opportunities and improving living standards in the village.

The interventions will follow Canon India’s 4Es CSR approach covering Education, Eye Care, Environment and Empowerment. The programme aims to support community resilience, self-reliance and sustainable development at the grassroots level.

The inaugural ceremony featured a keynote address by Mr. Toshiaki Nomura, President & CEO, Canon India, in the presence of Mr. Kailash Khandelwal, Director, Humana People to People India leadership.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Toshiaki Nomura, President & CEO, Canon India, said, “At Canon, we believe meaningful change begins when communities are empowered to shape their own futures. For over 14 years, this belief has been reflected in our ‘Adopt a Village’ initiative, which has focused on creating meaningful and lasting impact across rural India. With Tongtala in West Bengal, our 11th adopted village, we are taking this commitment forward and extending our efforts to another community. Central to this effort is the active role of our employees, who continue to translate the spirit of community development into meaningful actions. Through these collective efforts, we aim to scale more inclusive growth while building resilient communities from the grassroots.”

Launched in 2012, Canon India’s ‘Adopt a Village’ initiative has supported community development through sustained interventions across India. According to the company, the programme has impacted more than 300,000 lives with the participation of over 12,000 Canon volunteers.

With the addition of Tongtala, Canon India said the initiative will continue its focus on community-led development and interventions aligned with local needs.
