New Delhi, November 22, 2025: Cairn Oil & Gas, part of the Vedanta Group, has released its Sustainability Report for FY25, outlining key environmental, social, and governance achievements. The report states that the company reduced 89,770 tonnes of CO₂e emissions during the year—equivalent to the annual carbon sequestration of 4.5 million trees. Over the last five years, Cairn reports a cumulative reduction of 305,220 tonnes of CO₂e, comparable to 15 million trees planted.
The report, titled Inspiring Actions, Fostering Impact, highlights progress in emission reduction, water stewardship, waste utilisation, biodiversity initiatives, and workplace inclusion.
Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Non-Executive Director, Vedanta & Chairperson, Hindustan Zinc Limited, said, “At Vedanta, sustainability is guided by India’s timeless ethos of balancing progress with responsibility. Protecting the planet is central to how we take decisions. Cairn’s achievement of reducing more than 300,000 tonnes of carbon emissions over the last five years, equivalent to planting 15 million trees, is a strong reflection of this commitment.”
Cairn also reported planting around 800,000 trees and mangroves across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh as part of its long-term plan to plant 2 million trees by 2030. The company has pledged to reduce absolute methane emissions by 30% over the next five years, following its commitment under the United Nations Environment Programme’s OGMP 2.0 framework. It recently received the ‘Gold Standard Pathway’ status for its methane reduction roadmap.

Environmental Performance
- A total of 3.11 million GJ of energy has been conserved over the past five years.
- The company reports a 57% reduction in flaring volumes of potential gas since FY20.
- Cairn maintained a water-positive status, with an NPWI Index of 1.18 in FY25.
- Over 98% of waste generated in FY25 was diverted for material reuse or energy recovery.
Social and Community Impact
Cairn reports that its social development programmes in healthcare, education, agriculture, animal husbandry, and skill development have reached 195 million people across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Assam over the last five years.
Workplace Safety and Inclusion
The company continues to advance gender diversity, targeting 30% representation by 2030. As of FY25, women make up 22% of the overall workforce and 22% of decision-making positions.
Cairn’s safety performance places it among the top 10 global companies, based on the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) 2024 safety report. The company recorded a 90% reduction in lost-time injury frequency rate over five years.
