Blue Dart Plants 1 Million Trees Across India, Advancing Climate and Livelihood Goals

Mumbai, 18 February, 2026: Blue Dart Express Ltd., South Asia’s premier express air and integrated transportation and distribution company, has announced the successful plantation of one million trees across India, marking a major milestone in its sustainability and climate action journey.

The pan-India initiative has been implemented over several years with a dual focus—supporting carbon sequestration and ecosystem restoration while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers. At full maturity, the one million trees are estimated to sequester approximately 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, contributing to climate resilience and India’s broader environmental objectives.

Beyond carbon impact, the plantation drive is aimed at strengthening ecological balance. The initiative supports soil fertility enhancement, erosion prevention, improved water retention, and better air quality through pollutant absorption and oxygen generation. By stabilising local microclimates and improving water cycles, the programme seeks to enable long-term environmental sustainability.

The project also aligns with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).

Balfour Manuel, Managing Director, said, “Reaching the milestone of one million trees planted is a significant step in our commitment to supporting India’s carbon reduction and climate resilience goals. As one of the country’s largest logistics networks, we recognise our responsibility in contributing to a low-carbon future. Expanding green cover at scale not only supports national decarbonisation ambitions but also strengthens long-term environmental sustainability. Equally important, our initiative has strengthened rural livelihoods by equipping farmers with sustainable practices and long-term income opportunities. For us, climate action must be measurable, inclusive, and aligned with India’s broader ambition of building a resilient, sustainable economy.”

A key component of the programme is farmer capacity building. Participating farmers receive structured training in plantation techniques, maintenance practices, organic farming methods, mulching, pruning, pest management and water conservation. Demonstration plots and workshops provide hands-on learning to ensure long-term sustainability and improved productivity.

Through this milestone, Blue Dart reinforces its approach of integrating environmental responsibility with inclusive growth, combining ecosystem restoration with rural empowerment to contribute to a greener and more resilient future.
