New Delhi, February 04, 2026: On World Cancer Day, Vedanta Limited reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening India’s cancer care ecosystem through BALCO Medical Centre, highlighting the Centre’s role in delivering advanced oncology services in central India.
As part of its clinical milestones, BALCO Medical Centre recently performed a Whipple pancreaticoduodenectomy with portal vein resection on a 42-year-old patient diagnosed with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer. The procedure is among the most complex surgeries in oncology and is typically undertaken only at a limited number of highly specialised centres globally.
Located in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, the 170-bed oncology facility has expanded access to advanced cancer treatment beyond metropolitan regions, addressing gaps in diagnosis and care for patients in non-metro and rural areas. Since its inception in 2018, the Centre has treated nearly 65,000 patients, performed close to 12,000 major surgeries, and delivered more than 80,000 chemotherapy sessions.
In addition to clinical care, BALCO Medical Centre has conducted over 500 community health screening camps and cancer awareness programmes, reinforcing its focus on early detection and preventive healthcare across urban and rural communities.
Commenting on the significance of World Cancer Day, Ms. Jyoti Agarwal, Chairperson, Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, said, “World Cancer Day is a reminder that awareness, early detection and timely treatment are among the most effective tools we have to reduce the burden of cancer. Through BALCO Medical Centre and its community-focused interventions, we remain committed to expanding access to quality cancer care and encouraging a proactive approach to health.”
Emphasising the importance of early diagnosis, Dr. Bhawna Sirohi, Medical Director, Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, said, “Early diagnosis and informed decision-making significantly improve cancer outcomes. Our initiatives on World Cancer Day reflect our dual focus on clinical excellence and community engagement. Through screenings, awareness programmes and expert-led interactions, we continue to empower individuals with the knowledge and support needed for timely intervention and a better quality of life.”
As part of its World Cancer Day observance, BALCO Medical Centre organised multiple screening camps across Chhattisgarh in collaboration with community organisations and educational institutions. These included screening programmes with Terapanth Samaj in Raipur, a camp at Rungta Dental College in Bhilai, and a health talk and screening initiative in partnership with the State Health System Resource Centre (SHSRC) and Dear Foundation, Switzerland.
The Centre also hosted a cancer awareness webinar titled ‘Knowledge is Power’ and announced a limited-period 20 percent concession on select health screening packages from February 1 to 7, 2026, aimed at encouraging preventive health checks.
As the flagship initiative of the Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, BALCO Medical Centre continues to integrate clinical excellence with psychological, nutritional, and rehabilitative support, providing comprehensive care to cancer patients and strengthening access to specialised oncology services in central India.
