New Delhi, May 10, 2024: In a collaborative effort to support local entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability, NGO Bal Raksha Bharat and H&M India have inaugurated a groundbreaking bio-enzyme-based floor cleaner production unit in New Delhi. This initiative not only addresses the pressing issue of organic waste management but also creates meaningful livelihood opportunities for the community's youth.

The production unit is spearheaded by a dynamic team of nine local youths through a partnership firm. Through the innovative use of citric fruit peels as the primary raw material, the project not only tackles fruit waste disposal but also manufactures high-quality organic floor cleaner and fertilizer, while being priced at just Rs 150 per litre.

Speaking on the occasion, Sudarshan Suchi, Chief Executive Officer of Bal Raksha Bharat, said, "Empowering children, youth & the community is at the core of our work. This also is a significant step towards realisation of a Yuva Bharat. We thank H&M for collaborating with us to support initiatives that harness the potential of India's young population for national development, empowerment, and progress. Through this partnership, we not only mitigate environmental pollution but also empower local communities through job creation."

The manufacturing process, meticulously crafted with a blend of jaggery, fruit peels, and water in a specific ratio, undergoes a 90-day fermentation process to yield potent bio-enzymes. With no special machinery required, the unit showcases the power of organic production methods in achieving both environmental and economic sustainability.

Emphasizing on the collaboration, Yanira Ramirez, Country Sales Manager, H&M India, said, “At H&M, we believe in the power of collaboration to drive positive change. By supporting initiatives like the bio-enzyme production unit, we aim to create lasting impact in the communities we serve while advancing our sustainability goals. This partnership exemplifies our dedication to community empowerment and environmental sustainability, reinforcing our commitment to building a more circular economy and inclusive futures for the generations to come”.

The venture, born out of Bal Raksha Bharat's Youth Innovation and Action Lab (YIAL), showcases the power of youth leadership and human-centered design methodology in addressing community challenges. Through collaborative efforts, Bal Raksha Bharat and H&M are driving towards a cleaner, more sustainable future for all.
