Mumbai, May 22, 2026: Ambuja Foundation and HDFC Bank have expanded their Holistic Rural Development Program (HRDP) by introducing floriculture-based livelihoods across 15 villages in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The initiative aims to support sustainable farming practices while improving income opportunities for small and marginal farmers in the region.

The programme focuses on promoting flower cultivation as a high-value agricultural activity suited for farmers with small landholdings. According to the organisations, the consistent demand for flowers in Varanasi, a major spiritual and religious destination, makes floriculture a viable livelihood option for rural communities.

Under the initiative, 32 farmers, including both men and women, received training in organic farming methods and crop protection solutions. Farmers were also provided nursery plants of marigold, rose and jasmine to encourage flower cultivation. In addition, vermi bed units were introduced to help farmers produce organic manure and improve soil fertility through sustainable farming practices.

The programme also included onsite expert guidance and continuous support to help farmers adopt environmentally responsible floriculture practices.

According to the organisations, floriculture cultivation was undertaken across 6.4 acres in the 15 villages. With an estimated input cost of around ₹1.6 lakh, the initiative generated a total income of nearly ₹5.9 lakh for participating farmers. Officials said the project demonstrated the potential of floriculture as a profitable and sustainable livelihood model compared to traditional crops.

The initiative also promoted chemical- and pesticide-free farming practices, while enabling farmers to access better market prices and diversify their income sources.

Ms Pearl Tiwari, CEO, Ambuja Foundation said, “Ambuja Foundation and HDFC Bank are committed to bringing a positive change in the lives of rural communities and that is why we have successfully implemented the HRDP project together in various states. With this new initiative of adopting floriculture as a sustainable model, we aim to focus on the efficient farming practices and organic farming to support the rural communities in achieving economic growth.”

The initiative forms part of the broader Holistic Rural Development Program being implemented by Ambuja Foundation and HDFC Bank across multiple states to strengthen rural livelihoods and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
