New Delhi, January 21, 2026: Adani Foundation is strengthening grassroots sports development in Gangavaram, Andhra Pradesh, by nurturing young athletic talent through the Adani Coaching & Fitness Centre. Established in 2022, the Centre focuses on providing structured sports coaching and fitness training to youth from marginalised fisher folk communities, enabling them to pursue sporting aspirations alongside their education.
The Centre offers regular training in Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Shuttle Badminton and general fitness programmes. To date, more than 72 young players have been trained, including 30 girls, creating inclusive opportunities for participation in competitive sports. As part of its approach, the initiative combines physical training with mentorship, access to competitive platforms and the provision of professional sports kits.
Several athletes supported by the Centre have progressed to higher levels of competition. Sixteen-year-old Yeripalli Komali and Badi Divya have advanced from school-level tournaments to representing Andhra Pradesh at national-level Kabaddi competitions. Their journeys highlight how consistent coaching and local support can help young players from underserved communities transition into organised competitive sport.
Another example is 20-year-old Perla Divya, who represented Andhra University at the All-India Kabaddi tournament. She has since taken up employment as a Physical Education teacher, earning ₹7,000 per month, reflecting how sports training can also open pathways to livelihoods and financial independence.
The Centre is led by Nolli Theja, a 23-year-old national-level Kabaddi player from Gangavaram who has participated in 14 national tournaments. Drawing from his own experience of overcoming financial constraints, he now mentors and coaches aspiring athletes from the region, serving as a role model for local youth.
Beyond individual achievements, the Adani Coaching & Fitness Centre is positioning sports as a tool for empowerment, confidence-building and community pride. By providing structured training, dedicated mentorship and exposure to competitive opportunities, the Adani Foundation continues to support young athletes in Gangavaram to convert talent and aspiration into measurable outcomes, while promoting inclusive sports development at the grassroots level.
