Adani Foundation and ACC Construct Check Dam in Halakatta to Ensure Year-Round Irrigation for Farmers

New Delhi, June 30, 2025: ACC, a company under the Adani Portfolio, in collaboration with the Adani Foundation, has constructed a 500-metre-long check dam in Halakatta village, Kalaburagi district, Karnataka. The initiative addresses persistent water scarcity issues and has enabled year-round irrigation, benefiting the livelihoods of local farmers.

The check dam now supports irrigation for 30.8 hectares of farmland, helping farmers reduce their dependence on erratic monsoons and shift to cultivating multiple crops throughout the year. The intervention has significantly improved agricultural output and economic resilience in the region.

One such beneficiary is Eranna, a smallholder farmer with four acres of land. Previously limited to growing a single seasonal crop, he now cultivates black gram, wheat, cotton, and vegetables. As a result, his annual income has tripled to ₹30,000, allowing him to enhance his family’s living conditions.

The improved water availability has also encouraged farmers in the area to take up allied activities such as goat rearing, contributing to food security and additional income sources.

Through this initiative, ACC and the Adani Foundation continue to support sustainable agricultural practices and rural development by enabling access to essential water infrastructure.
