Mumbai, September 26, 2025: Abbott has announced progress on its shared-value initiative, Project Ksheersagar, launched in partnership with international non-profit TechnoServe to strengthen India’s dairy supply chain. The program, active in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, is supporting 12,000 dairy farmers and 51,000 dairy animals, with results showing a 55% increase in milk production and doubled farmer incomes.

The initiative provides farmers with training in financial literacy, dairy farm management, and animal husbandry practices, while also helping them open bank accounts and explore employment opportunities. Abbott and TechnoServe have established 130 village-based milk collection centers with cold storage facilities to ensure quality and improve farmer earnings.

“This initiative benefits the local farming community as well as families who depend on Abbott’s nutritional products,” said Joydeep Dutta, Country Director, TechnoServe India. “By adopting standardized dairy practices, Indian farmers have improved milk quality and productivity—while increasing their incomes and gaining valuable knowledge.”

Shibasish Pramanik, Supply Chain Director for Abbott’s nutrition business in India, added, “Project Ksheersagar is part of Abbott's efforts to create a sustainable and resilient raw milk supply chain. This initiative helps family businesses succeed and creates opportunities for future generations. It also allows Abbott to locally source high-quality milk for our nutrition products. We expect to source 60% of our milk powder needs from farmers in the program, adding real value to our nutrition business and the families who rely on our products.”

The project has also reduced veterinary costs by 60% through improved animal care standards and reduced antibiotic use. Abbott stated that the initiative is a key step in building a resilient, sustainable dairy supply chain that benefits farmers, animals, and consumers alike.
