Chennai, June 30, 2026: Aahwahan Foundation has inaugurated what it describes as India's first Pink Room at Avadi Higher Secondary Government School in Chennai, an initiative aimed at supporting menstrual hygiene, girls' health, and uninterrupted education for school-going girls.

The Pink Room is designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and hygienic space for girls during their menstrual cycle, with the goal of ensuring that no student has to miss school due to period-related challenges.

The facility is equipped with a range of amenities, including a bed, recliner chair, hot water bag, sanitary napkins, first-aid medicines, an attached washroom, a changing room, drinking water access, and recreational games to help girls rest and recover with dignity during school hours.

According to the foundation, the initiative is intended to improve menstrual hygiene management, reduce school absenteeism among girls, raise health awareness, and foster a more supportive learning environment. By addressing a need that is often overlooked in school infrastructure, the project aims to help young girls continue their education without interruption.

The launch is being positioned as part of Aahwahan Foundation's broader work in girl child empowerment, women's health, quality education, and the development of inclusive school environments across India. The organisation has expressed hope that the initiative will encourage other schools across the country to set up similar facilities for adolescent girls.

The Avadi Higher Secondary Government School Pink Room is currently being cited as the first of its kind in India, marking a notable step toward addressing menstrual health gaps in public school infrastructure.
