Aahwahan Foundation Launches Diabetic-Free Village Initiative in Nashik and Dharwad

Nashik, 23 February, 2026: Aahwahan Foundation has launched what it describes as India’s first Diabetic-Free Village Initiative, beginning in Nashik, Maharashtra, with expansion into Dharwad district in Karnataka. The preventive healthcare programme focuses on diabetes screening, early detection, and awareness in rural communities.

In its first phase, the initiative covers 15 villages—seven in Nashik district and eight in Dharwad district. In Nashik, the programme is being implemented in villages including Thangaon, Mamadapur, Rajapur, Panhalsathe, SomathaanJosh, and Ambegaon. The combined population of these villages is approximately 16,640, of which 4,180 individuals have undergone diabetes screening, health awareness sessions, and related interventions.

The programme includes free diabetes screenings, weekly health check-ups, test reporting, and distribution of medicines and equipment. Beneficiaries are provided with Diabetes Kits containing testing devices and essential medicines. Villagers are categorised into Borderline Individuals, High-Risk Individuals, and Already Diabetic Patients based on screening results, with follow-up care tailored accordingly.

Mr. Braja Kishore Pradhan, CEO & Founder of Aahwahan Foundation, said, “Diabetes quietly takes away the years from a life already struggling to have access to basic health care. This project was developed from the pain I have witnessed in the countryside, people suffering merely because the prevention never made it to them. Our aim goes beyond the diagnosis; it includes giving every family we serve back their dignity, hope, and health. Healthy villages forge a stronger nation.”

A beneficiary, Rajesh Yadav, shared his experience: “In the past, many NGOs visited our village, conducted medical tests, and prepared reports, but their support ended there. In contrast, Aahwahan’s initiative has made a meaningful difference in our lives. We now receive complete hospital treatment with comprehensive medical care. Regular treatment has improved my health. The Aahwahan team visits our village every week to provide treatment and distribute medicines. The Aahwahan Foundation has brought awareness, care, and confidence into our lives, helping us live in good health.”

The initiative seeks to address gaps in early diagnosis and preventive healthcare in rural areas, where access to regular medical services remains limited.
