New Delhi, August 03, 2026: Marking World Breastfeeding Week, Vedanta Group reaffirmed its commitment to improving maternal and child health through its flagship social impact initiative, Nand Ghar, which operates more than 15,000 modernised anganwadi centres across 18 states, supporting over 4 lakh women and 5 lakh children.
The initiative focuses on strengthening maternal and child healthcare by providing access to early childhood education, nutrition, healthcare services and women's skill development. Working in collaboration with government health systems, Nand Ghar supports antenatal and postnatal care, growth monitoring, immunisation, nutrition counselling and health screening camps in rural communities.
Aligned with the Government's Saksham Anganwadi 2.0 and the National Health Mission, the programme promotes early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, complementary feeding practices and maternal nutrition through counselling sessions, Poshan Maah campaigns and community outreach. It also facilitates referrals for high-risk pregnancies and children requiring specialised care.
Speaking on the occasion, Shashi Arora, CEO, Nand Ghar, said, "The first 1,000 days of a child's life's are among the most critical in shaping long-term health, nutrition and development. Through Nand Ghar, we are strengthening community-led systems that empower women with informed choices, improve maternal and child health outcomes, and enable every child to receive the healthiest possible start in life. As we mark World Breastfeeding Week, we reaffirm our commitment to building healthier families and stronger communities through sustainable, grassroots interventions."
The initiative also highlights the role of frontline community workers such as Anju Dubey, a Nand Ghar worker in Khojwa, Varanasi, who counsels pregnant and lactating women on maternal nutrition, breastfeeding, immunisation and child growth, helping improve awareness and healthcare practices at the community level.
Vedanta said it will continue expanding community-based interventions aimed at improving nutrition, healthcare access and maternal support, contributing to healthier outcomes for women and children across rural India.
