New Delhi, October 31, 2025: In a major step toward accelerating India’s energy transition and solar adoption, Tata Power has launched ‘EcoCrew,’ India’s largest Energy Literacy Movement, sensitizing nearly 3 lakh students across 1,000+ schools in 24 cities of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The program aims to educate and engage young minds on the importance of clean energy, sustainability, and climate action.
The year-long initiative has helped students understand the impacts of global warming and climate change while introducing solar energy as an affordable and accessible alternative for households. Through the program, Tata Power has created a growing network of EcoCrew members — “BFFs of Nature” — who act as sustainability ambassadors within their communities.
The movement’s impact has extended beyond awareness to measurable adoption. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand now rank among the top three states in India for rooftop solar adoption, recording over 3.14 lakh installations amounting to 1.1 GW under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY).
Over the past 12 months, EcoCrew has hosted more than 50,000 minutes of on-ground learning and 1,50,000 minutes of online engagement. Students participated in energy audits, creative competitions, and a 21-day gamified online sustainability challenge, promoting planet-friendly actions at home and school. Tata Power’s sustainability mascot, Globey, helped make the sessions interactive, reinforcing how small daily actions can drive large-scale environmental change.
To recognize the most active participants, five mega finale events will be held in Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, Gorakhpur, and Meerut over the next two weeks, celebrating schools and students who have championed the EcoCrew initiative.
Currently, Uttar Pradesh has 2.6 lakh rooftop solar installations with a total capacity of 901.42 MW, bolstered by the combined Central and State Government subsidies — up to ₹78,000 from the Centre and ₹30,000 from UPNEDA — that make solar power adoption more affordable for households.
In alignment with national clean energy goals, Tata Power has also been advancing its ‘GharGharSolar’ initiative, first launched in Varanasi, to encourage residential rooftop solar installations under PMSGY.
Looking ahead, Tata Power plans to expand EcoCrew nationwide, reaching millions of students in the coming years to foster a deeper culture of energy literacy, solar readiness, and climate responsibility.
By engaging youth in sustainability education, Tata Power continues to strengthen India’s roadmap toward energy independence and carbon neutrality, in line with Atmanirbhar Bharat and the clean energy vision of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.
