Nashik, November 14, 2025: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the Nashik Municipal Corporation’s 274 MLD Vilholi Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and the augmentation of the Mukane water supply scheme on Friday. Developed at a cost of ₹370 crore, the project is expected to enhance water availability for more than 55 lakh residents and support the over 1 crore visitors anticipated during the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
The new WTP aims to improve year-round water supply, strengthen resilience during peak tourism periods and support local economic activities. The project is partially funded through Green Sustainable Bonds worth ₹200 crore, marking Nashik’s continued investment in sustainable urban infrastructure.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “This project reflects our commitment to ensuring water security and sustainable growth for Nashik, benefitting citizens and supporting the city’s future development.”
The scheme is part of the city’s broader efforts to improve water distribution efficiency and modernize its supply system. Under the initiative, Nashik aims to reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) from the current 45% to 27%, with a long-term target of reaching 5%.
Manisha Khatri, Commissioner and Administrator, Nashik Municipal Corporation, said, “Our goal is to reduce Non-Revenue Water from 45% to 27%, and eventually to 5%, through upgraded pipelines, improved distribution efficiency, and advanced SCADA automation. These efforts will ensure consistent, high-quality water supply and make Nashik a benchmark city in India’s urban water management.”
The Vilholi WTP and the Mukane augmentation scheme are expected to be fully operational ahead of the 2027 Kumbh Mela, ensuring uninterrupted water access during the event.
