Bengaluru, November 21, 2025: The Infosys Foundation, the CSR and philanthropic arm of Infosys, has supported the ecological restoration of Doddathoguru Lake near Electronic City in Bengaluru, in collaboration with the Malligavad Foundation. The rejuvenated lake was inaugurated recently in the presence of Shri M. Krishnappa, MLA, Bangalore South Assembly Constituency, along with Jayesh Sanghrajka, Chief Financial Officer, Infosys, and other dignitaries.
Backed by a grant of approximately INR 9 crore from Infosys Foundation, the restoration project has transformed the degraded waterbody into a functioning ecosystem designed to enhance groundwater recharge, improve biodiversity, and support community use. The intervention included de-weeding, desilting, creation of bunds, sewage diversion, and natural wastewater treatment through floating wetlands.
The lake, once an important drinking water source for the surrounding areas, had suffered significant ecological decline due to sewage inflow and solid waste accumulation. This deterioration resulted in contamination, reduced water-holding capacity, and periodic flooding. Following rejuvenation efforts, the water-holding capacity has increased by nearly 500 million litres, contributing to improved flood mitigation and ecological balance.
In addition to environmental improvements, the project included the development of public amenities such as a walking track, children’s play area, and an open-air gym, making the lake a recreational and community-friendly space.
With the restoration of Doddathoguru Lake, Infosys Foundation reinforces its wider focus on environmental conservation, sustainable urban development, and enhancing community well-being through long-term ecological interventions.
