IGBC Pune Chapter Hosts Green Sabha to Promote Sustainable Construction Practices

Pune, 17 September 2025: The Confederation of Indian Industry’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Pune Chapter hosted the Green Sabha at PYC Gymkhana, Pune, bringing together architects, developers, manufacturers, and technology experts to promote the use of sustainable products and technologies in the construction and real estate sector.

The event was part of CII IGBC’s World Green Building Week celebrations from September 8–13, 2025, aimed at highlighting the role of sustainable buildings in improving health, creating jobs, reducing waste, and building climate resilience.

Opening the event, Poorva Keskar, Chair, IGBC Pune Chapter, welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of adopting green building practices. The sessions included a presentation by Praveen Kumar Soma, Principal Counsellor, CII-IGBC, on the CII GreenPro ecolabel, a Type-1 Ecolabel accredited by the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN). With more than 11,500 certified products, GreenPro provides sustainability information to support informed decisions in building and manufacturing.

Keskar also highlighted IGBC’s upcoming initiatives such as the Green Building Congress 2025, encouraging Pune’s stakeholders to align with national net-zero goals and international climate commitments.

A panel discussion on ‘GreenPro for Pune: Enabling Sustainable Growth in Construction & Real Estate’ was led by Hrishikesh Manjrekar, Co-Chair, IGBC Pune Chapter, and included industry leaders such as Samali Khinvasara, Director, Prime Colour Products; Tanay Paranjape, CEO and Founder, Aindri Initiatives Pvt. Ltd.; Alok Kale, Founder, Magnus Ventures; and Pratik Potnis, Founder, The Green Studio and Trios. Moderated by Pranati Shroff, the discussion focused on the business case for green products, policy incentives, and overcoming adoption barriers.

The event also featured a technical session by Karl Wadia, Senior Principal, Architect Hafeez Contractor, who spoke on the role of designers and developers in driving urban decarbonization through circular construction practices and innovative material choices.

During the Sabha, Amar Builders were felicitated with the GreenPro Facility Services plaque for two of their projects, marking Maharashtra’s first and India’s second recognition of this kind. Megapolis Saffron also received the Silver Certification plaque under the IGBC Green Residential Society rating.

Throughout the event, speakers shared guidance on aligning with policies, integrating GreenPro standards into procurement, and accessing green finance schemes to support low-carbon investments.

The Green Sabha concluded with a reaffirmation of IGBC Pune Chapter’s commitment to creating collaborative platforms for informed decision-making in the sector. The initiative is seen as a strategic step towards accelerating Pune’s green transition and supporting a climate-resilient and economically robust future for the city’s communities.
