Flipkart Diverts Over 21,000 Tonnes of Waste Annually, Expands TRUE Gold–Certified Facilities to Strengthen Zero-Waste Systems

New Delhi November 20, 2025: Flipkart Group announced that it is now diverting more than 21,000 tonnes of waste annually across its supply chain, achieving a waste diversion rate exceeding 96% at its TRUE Gold–certified facilities. With eight new sites certified this year, the company now operates 12 TRUE Gold–certified facilities nationwide, marking a major expansion of its zero-waste commitment.

TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Certification, administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), recognises facilities that meet a minimum of 90% diversion through strategies of reduction, reuse, recycling, and recovery. Flipkart’s newly certified sites—including RDC Calcutta, Sanpka, Farrukhnagar FCSC, Saidham Grocery and FC, Anjaneya, Medchal, and Yakubpur—generated 15,846 tonnes of waste, of which 15,221 tonnes were diverted, resulting in a 96% diversion rate. Previously certified facilities continued strong performance, diverting 6,481 tonnes out of 6,537 tonnes, reaching 99% diversion.

Nishant Gupta, Head of Sustainability at Flipkart Group, said, “Our progress reflects a firm belief that waste must be viewed as a resource. The expansion of our TRUE Gold–certified network shows the impact of consistent systems, responsible operations and teams that take ownership of sustainable practices every day. We have built on the foundation set in 2023 and scaled our efforts with stronger data, deeper circularity and a sharper focus on resource efficiency. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to responsible waste management that delivers environmental value and operational gains.”

Flipkart has also expanded its circularity partnerships to ensure that paper, plastic, and wood scrap are sorted at source and reprocessed into finished goods, reducing dependence on virgin materials while generating cost savings.

Alongside these efforts, the company has strengthened hazardous waste and e-waste handling protocols, improved sustainability-related staff training, and advanced broader goals including 100% paper-based packaging, installation of ~30 MW rooftop solar capacity, expansion of EV-based last-mile delivery, and adoption of green building standards.

Flipkart has additionally led a large-scale circular economy initiative that has recycled over 26,000 tonnes of paper, improving scrap collection by more than 50%.

The company says these measures reflect its long-term ambition to eliminate waste to landfill across all facilities and further embed sustainability in its operations nationwide.
