New Delhi, October 22, 2025: The Department of Women and Child Development (Government of NCT of Delhi) has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SOS Children’s Villages India to jointly implement the Government’s Sponsorship Scheme through SOS India’s Kinship Care Programme. The initiative aims to ensure holistic care and protection for 350 children without parental care across Delhi.

The agreement was signed by Smt. Mitali Namchoom, IAS, Director, Department of Women and Child Development, GNCT of Delhi, and Sh. Sumanta Kar, CEO, SOS Children’s Villages India, in the presence of senior officials from both institutions.

Under this partnership, SOS Children’s Villages India will bring its expertise in family-based care to enhance the quality and reach of the Sponsorship Scheme. The collaboration will focus on strengthening family-based alternative care by empowering caregivers and ensuring every child’s emotional, physical, and educational development.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Mitali Namchoom, IAS, Director, Department of Women and Child Development, said:
“Every child deserves the love, security, and stability of a family. At the Department of Women and Child Development, we believe that the true measure of a society lies in how it cares for its most vulnerable members. This partnership with SOS Children’s Villages India reflects our shared vision to create a nurturing ecosystem where every child can grow up with dignity, surrounded by people who care for them deeply. We are not only supporting children materially but also preserving their family bonds, cultural identity, and emotional well-being. Together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate Delhi, one where no child is left behind.”

Sh. Sumanta Kar, CEO, SOS Children’s Villages India, added:
“At SOS Children’s Villages India, we have always believed that a child’s best interests are served when they grow up within a family, surrounded by love, belonging, and emotional security. This partnership is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of circumstance, has the opportunity to thrive. Through the Kinship Care Programme, we will work hand-in-hand with families and caregivers to build their capacity, provide psychosocial and educational support, and ensure that children not only survive, but truly flourish. Our goal is simple yet profound, to ensure that every child under this programme grows up with hope in their hearts and the confidence to shape their own future.”

The Kinship Care Programme will support 350 children in Delhi and will focus on care and protection, education, health and nutrition, emotional well-being, and social inclusion. Regular caregiver training and child progress assessments will also be conducted jointly under the initiative.

Established in 1964, SOS Children’s Villages India is one of the country’s largest self-implementing childcare NGOs, providing family-based care to children without parental support and empowering vulnerable families to become self-reliant. The organisation currently supports over 6,500 children through 32 SOS Children’s Villages across 22 states and union territories.
