Lucknow, Aug 3, 2024: In a step towards combating childhood malnutrition, Amway India had expanded its ‘Power of 5’ program to Lucknow in partnership with ChildFund India.

After positively impacting lakhs of lives in Haryana, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai, the program now extends its reach to Lucknow. As part of Amway's steadfast commitment to enhancing health and wellbeing, this initiative targets children, mothers and caregivers with effective nutrition education and interventions. Through this program, Amway India strives not only to improve individual lives but to build a foundation for healthier families and communities.

Commenting on the expansion, Rajneesh Chopra, Managing Director, Amway India, said, “A recent report underscores the alarming prevalence of malnutrition among children in India. It states that of the approximately 8.57 crore children under the age of 6 measured, 17% were underweight, 36% stunted, and 6% wasted. The launch of the Power of 5 program in Lucknow is a pivotal move by Amway India to address this critical issue, aligning with the Government's National Nutrition Mission. Our 90-year legacy with Nutrilite gives us a distinct edge in offering need-based health and wellbeing solutions. With our extensive expertise in nutrition and the dedicated efforts of our partner ChildFund India, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families. Since 2018, we have positively impacted the lives of 5,00,000 individuals through our Power of 5 program, and by the end of 2024, we aim to benefit over 7,50,000 people. Our mission is to continue expanding our reach and drive lasting, positive change across India to pave the way for a healthier future”.

In Lucknow, the program will target over 100,000 people, including more than 50,000 mothers and caregivers, and will cater to 5,000 children aged 0-6 years. Implemented in nearly 25 slums across the city, it will cover over 100 Anganwadi centers. Of the 5,000 children, 1,000 aged 3-6 years will receive Nutrilite Little Bits, a micro-nutrient supplement designed to promote better health.

Chandrashekhar Pandey, Director, Programs - ChildFund India, shared, “Our collaboration with Amway India through the Power of 5 program represents a significant step in our fight against childhood malnutrition. With the launch of this initiative in Lucknow, we are dedicated to delivering crucial nutrition and fostering long-term health improvements. This partnership not only helps address immediate needs but also empowers families with knowledge and resources for sustainable development. We are excited to continue working together to advance health equity and make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.”

The initiative will educate parents and caregivers on essential nutrition practices, such as proper feeding techniques, diet quality, and age-appropriate complementary feeding. It will also emphasize WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) practices, including safe drinking water, personal hygiene, proper handwashing, and food safety. The Power of 5 program will closely collaborate and work with the local Municipal Corporation, the ICDS Department, and Health and Wellness Centers to ensure comprehensive community engagement and support.

Since its inception in 2018, the Power of 5 program has positively impacted over 5,00,000 individuals, including 100,000 children, through targeted nutrition education and interventions. By the end of 2024, the program aims to reach approximately 250,000 people across Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, and beyond, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to close to 750,000.
