New Delhi, February 7, 2024: Mpower, the mental healthcare initiative by the Aditya Birla Education Trust, has announced the fifth edition of 'Ride to Mpower'. This charity cycling event, taking place on February 24 and 25, will cover a distance of 170 km from Pune to Mumbai.

Spearheaded by Neerja Birla, Founder, and Chairperson of Aditya Birla Education Trust, the cyclothon is set to unite over 200 pro cyclists and hundreds of fitness enthusiasts.

Over the years, 'Ride to Mpower' has established itself as one of Mpower’s most impactful initiatives, striving to educate people on the crucial link between physical and mental health. An initiative to raise awareness about mental health, its goal is to #StampOutStigma and initiate more free conversations around the need for holistic well-being.

Based on recent observations at the Mpower Center in Pune, the Mpower team of psychiatrists and psychologists has discerned that Pune, a city renowned for its vibrant culture and dynamism, grapples with an acute mental health situation. Current data emphasizes the urgency of addressing this matter, with individuals aged 20 to 45 predominantly seeking mental health support. They often cite stress, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal issues as prevalent challenges. Pune's unique cultural landscape, characterized by heightened work pressure, inter-relational challenges, and demanding lifestyles, significantly contributes to mental health burnout.

According to the officials, 'Ride to Mpower' seeks to create awareness and foster understanding tailored to the diverse demographic within Pune. As a response to the observed mental health challenges, the campaign aims to reduce stigma and establish a supportive community that effectively addresses the multifaceted mental health needs of Pune residents.

Speaking on the occasion Parveen Shaikh, Vice President – Operations, Mpower, emphasized the ongoing mental health challenges faced by Indian society. She highlighted the collective responsibility each individual holds in alleviating these struggles. Ms. Shaikh underscored the significance of physical activities, such as cycling, as a means to address mental health concerns. In the context of 'Ride to Mpower,' she expressed the hope that the event would serve as a poignant reminder, particularly during the exam season – a period known for heightened stress among both students and parents. Shaikh emphasized the positive impact of exercise and physical activities in promoting the release of endorphins, natural mood enhancers that play a crucial role in coping with stress.

Cyclists also shared their thoughts on the journey. Siddarth Bhamre, ProCyclist, said, "Being a part of 'Ride to Mpower' is more than a physical challenge; it's a powerful statement. Every pedal stroke symbolizes my commitment to shatter the stigma surrounding mental health. As a cyclist, I am proud to be a part of this transformative journey, spreading awareness one revolution at a time.”

Purushrut Khillari, Procyclist, stated, “Participating in 'Ride to Mpower' is not just about the miles we cover, but the conversations we spark. Each push of the pedal resonates with a shared dedication to stamping out the stigma attached to mental health. I, for one, am cycling for change, riding together toward a future where mental well-being is a priority for all.”
