New Delhi, December 16, 2025: Vedanta Limited reaffirmed its commitment to India’s clean energy transition on National Energy Conservation Day, highlighting that it has mitigated nearly 20 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions through renewable energy sourcing and decarbonisation initiatives till November FY26 .

According to the company, Vedanta has sourced 2.58 billion units of renewable energy, resulting in emissions mitigation equivalent to removing approximately 4.1 lakh cars from Indian roads for a year. Since FY21, the group has cumulatively mitigated over 2.8 crore tonnes of CO₂ emissions, comparable to the annual carbon absorption of more than 1 billion mature trees.

Vedanta’s decarbonisation strategy is anchored in four focus areas—renewable energy expansion, adoption of low-carbon fuels, energy and process efficiency, and use of carbon offsets. In FY25, the company invested around USD 170 million (approximately ₹1,500 crore) towards its net-zero efforts. In FY26, it has undertaken over 30 energy-saving and decarbonisation projects, including improvements in waste heat recovery, periodic overhauling and optimisation of energy consumption using advanced pot controllers. These initiatives are expected to save more than 1.5 lakh tonnes of CO₂ annually, equivalent to the absorption capacity of around 70 lakh trees.

In line with the Government of India’s Waste to Wealth mission, Vedanta has also increased the use of biofuels derived from biomass and agricultural residue. In 2025 alone, the company utilised 182 kilotonnes of biomass, mitigating over 3 lakh tonnes of CO₂, equivalent to the annual absorption of 1.5 crore mature trees.

The company noted that it has reduced its carbon intensity by nearly 30% since 2021 through low-carbon production practices. As part of its Energy Conservation Week, Vedanta reported savings of over 33,000 MWh of energy across its zinc and ferrochrome operations, alongside employee-led awareness initiatives and greener commute campaigns across locations .

Vedanta reiterated its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 or earlier, while continuing to strengthen its role in supplying transition metals and critical minerals essential for India’s clean energy and sustainability goals .
