New Delhi, January 16, 2024: Vedanta, a globally diversified natural resources company, has implemented an inclusive Parenthood Policy aimed at providing essential support to its employees. The policy extends benefits such as sabbatical leave, flexible working options, and enhanced maternity support for women.
Under this policy, women can take a sabbatical leave of up to 12 months with job security guaranteed upon their return. For those continuing immediately after maternity leave, the option of working from home or adopting flexible working hours is available. This flexibility can be utilized four weeks before the expected delivery date until the child reaches two years of age, ensuring a balanced approach to career and parenting responsibilities.
Vedanta's commitment to diversity is evident in the expansion of this policy to include all employees, encompassing single parents and LGBTQIA+ individuals legally commissioning or adopting a child. Caregivers can avail up to 12 weeks of leave for a child under one year, with the flexibility to use it 30 days before the commissioning/adoption date and up to 90 days post-date.
In addition to these measures, Vedanta introduces a 'No Questions Asked' work-from-home day each month, emphasizing the company's concern for the physical and mental well-being of its women employees.
Commenting on the extended policy benefits, Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson, Hindustan Zinc Limited & Non-Executive Director, Vedanta Limited said, “At Vedanta, we believe in fostering an environment where women employees feel supported and empowered throughout their professional and personal journeys. Emphasizing that parenthood is not a hiatus from professional life but a transformative phase for all caregivers, our new policy underscores our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We hope that with this policy, we are able to set a new standard for progressive workplace policies across the nation.”
This progressive policy builds on Vedanta's dedication to employee well-being, following the introduction of medical benefits for transgender employees in their inclusion policy. The company continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful working environment for all.
