Telangana Signs MoU with 1M1B to Establish India’s First Green Skills Academy

New Delhi, February 6, 2024: The Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications Telangana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the 1M1B Foundation to establish India’s first 1M1B Green Skills Academy in Hyderabad. The initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of green skills among college youth in Telangana through the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK).

Under the partnership, the program targets to engage 1 million youth from Telangana by 2030. To be implemented in over 700+ colleges in the state, the initiative will provide training and opportunities in green skills, leveraging artificial intelligence and other contemporary technologies.

The MoU signing ceremony took place in the presence of Shri. Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) and Information Technology (IT) Departments of The Telangana Government, and Shri Abhiram Natarajan, Director- Grassroots, 1M1B, at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat in Hyderabad.

According to 1M1B officials, the Green Skills Academy, tailored for college students over 18 years of age, aims to equip the future workforce with the necessary skillset, mindset, and toolsets for the evolving green economy. It offers theoretical knowledge, projects, workplace experiences, internships, and job readiness mentoring, fostering a dynamic learning environment.

Participants will gain specialized skills in artificial intelligence, sustainable design, data analysis, and project management. The program integrates real-world challenges to nurture critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration abilities. Direct interactions with industry experts and sustainability-focused organizations will provide guidance, mentorship, and potential employment opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Principal Secretary, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, and Industries & Commerce Department said, “We are looking forward to our partnership with TASK with 1M1B in fulfilling our commitment in achieving the Net Zero mission. Every change begins with an individual or a family, and therefore, green skills must be taught to young minds. We will ensure our full support for 1M1B so that our youths are well-equipped with green skills and set an extraordinary example for the rest of the country and the world.”

Shrikant Sinha, CEO, Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) said, “This pivotal partnership with One Million for One Billion (1M1B), we will be starting Telangana's Green Skills Academy- Leveraging AI and that is where our youth can be exposed to various skills that are required for the future. The structure of the program itself is very encouraging for us and with support of 1M1B, we look forward to helping our students with skills related to green, empowerment, AI and Metaverse so that they are ready to not only face the world but also contribute to the leadership of this growing economy.”

Manav Subodh, Founder and Chief Mentor, 1M1B, said, “We are proud to partner with the Government of Telangana and TASK to set up India’s 1st Green Skill Academy in the state. Green Skills and AI skills must be used as an equalizer. The Green Skills Academy will provide inclusive opportunities to not just youth in cities but also in the villages of Telangana. As 1M1B’s mission unfolds in Telangana, it will empower a youth a million strong to become a changemaker for a sustainable future driven by green sustainability and AI. I hope that this initiative will turn our youths into Green Warriors and develop a future-ready green workforce by 2030. The first edition of the Green Skills Academy will also collate Inputs and recommendations from diverse stakeholders for United Nations Summit of the Future 2024, with focus on AI, cyber safety, climate action and inclusive technologies”

Over 700 colleges under TASK will participate in the Green Skills Academy program. Successful completion will offer internships and links to green jobs, with the top 10 participants getting an opportunity to showcase their work at the annual 1M1B Youth Summit at the United Nations in New York.
