Pune, 24 February 2021: With an aim to support deserving girl students, SKF India has announced its Scholarship Program for over 100 girls from Marathwada in Maharashtra and Chikkaballapur and Chamarajanagar region, in Karnataka. Launched in partnership with the local NGOs of these regions - Grameen Shamika Pratishtan and Prerana - the Scholarship program aims to provide support to all these girls so that they can achieve their educational and career dreams.
Under the program, SKF India provides scholarship to meritorious girls from underprivileged economic background who have scored over 80% in their SSC exams. Targeted at girls pursuing various professional courses such as medical, engineering, CA, Pharm, etc., the scholarship fund can be utilised for covering expenses such as government college fees, hostel accommodation charges, mess fees, transport, stationery and other related costs.
Reaffirming SKF India’s commitment, Manish Bhatnagar, Managing Director, SKF India, said, "Education can be a driving force for social change and can help young children realize their true potential. These bright young minds come from drought-prone regions where literacy is low, and opportunities are scarce. Over the last four years, some of these girls have found their calling as future doctors and engineers, and nothing makes us happier than to have played a role in their journey. We believe a society with empowered women can inspire an equitable workforce, stronger families, and overall economic growth of our country."
SKF Scholarship Program was launched in the Marathwada region in the year 2017 with the objective of extending educational support for deserving girls from economically weaker sections of the society to break the barriers of financial constraints and educate them to become self-reliant. The girls are selected based on a stringent selection process which includes written exams, interviews, and house visits. The program also offers holistic development, including workshops on life skills, career guidance, physical and mental health, and regular mentoring from SKF to help the students work through their academic and personal problems.
This scholarship program for girls has supported over 260 girls across Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad, Beed, Aurangabad, Parabhani, Jalna and Hingoli districts of Marathawada, Maharashtra and district of Chikkaballapur and Chamarajanagar in Karnataka so far.
