New Delhi, January 29, 2026: Google has announced a series of grant-backed initiatives and strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening AI-powered learning, skilling, and teacher enablement across India. The announcements were made at Google’s AI for Learning Forum in New Delhi and reflect the company’s efforts to support public education systems with responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence tools.
As part of its education-focused interventions, Google.org has committed an ₹85 crore grant to Wadhwani AI to support the development and deployment of AI-powered solutions across key government platforms, including SWAYAM and POSHAN Tracker. The initiative aims to reach 75 million students and 1.8 million educators by December 2027, with tools designed to improve learning outcomes, accessibility, and job readiness.
The grant will support multilingual, voice-enabled learning tools, AI-assisted teacher support systems, and student-facing applications aligned with national education priorities. The focus remains on ensuring that AI adoption complements educators while improving reach in underserved regions.
Preeti Lobana, Vice President and Country Manager, Google India, said, “By combining the human connection of teaching with research-backed AI principles in learning, we are helping build a future where every learner in India, regardless of their language or location, has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
Google also announced the rollout of new AI-powered learning features for students and teachers. These include JEE Main practice tests in Gemini, developed in partnership with PhysicsWallah and Careers360, along with AI-generated study guides, quizzes, and learning prompts integrated into Google Search.
For educators, enhancements to Google Classroom will enable personalised feedback, content adaptation, and improved classroom engagement. To promote transparency and safety, Google is also expanding the use of SynthID digital watermarking, allowing users to identify AI-generated or edited content.
Chris Phillips, Vice President, Education, Google, said, “By grounding our tools in the science of learning, we aim to foster critical thinking and elevate the fundamental connection between teachers and learners.”
Building on these partnerships, Google announced a collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), Meerut, to pilot India’s first AI-enabled state university.
Under the initiative, CCSU will work with Google Cloud to deploy AI tools such as Gemini Enterprise to improve administrative efficiency, personalised learning pathways, research support, and skill-gap analysis. Learnings from the pilot are expected to contribute to a scalable framework for modernising higher education and vocational institutions nationwide.
Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE and Ministry of Education, said, “To realize the vision of a Viksit Bharat, we must empower our entire educational ecosystem with digital tools and AI – from the students in the classroom to the educators leading them… Ultimately, we are working to modernize education so that a student’s success is defined by their talent and drive, ensuring they graduate not just with a degree, but with the high-demand skills to thrive in the workforce.”
Together, these initiatives underline Google’s approach to integrating AI into India’s education and skilling ecosystem through public partnerships, responsible technology deployment, and long-term capacity building.
