Mysuru, December 09, 2025: The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Mysore to strengthen sustainability-focused education and develop industry-ready professionals for India’s growing green building sector. The agreement marks a significant step toward integrating green concepts into mainstream higher education across Karnataka.

The MoU, signed at the University of Mysore campus, formalizes a collaboration that will introduce specialized courses on Green Built Environment across the University’s affiliated colleges. The initiative aims to equip students in civil, mechanical, electrical and architecture streams with contemporary knowledge, practical training and industry exposure in sustainable building practices.

On behalf of the University, the MoU was signed by Prof. Lokanath N. K., Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, while the IGBC Mysuru Chapter was represented by Mr. Vinod Maroli, Chairman, and Mr. Srihari D, Co-Chairman. Senior dignitaries from the University and IGBC were present, underscoring the importance of the collaboration for the region’s academic and sustainability agenda.

Under the agreement, IGBC will develop course content, train faculty, offer accreditation and provide exposure to industry practices through expert sessions, online modules and IGBC programmes. The University of Mysore will integrate the curriculum as an elective or core subject, ensure classroom delivery, nominate faculty for training and facilitate student participation, thereby embedding sustainability into its academic framework.

Mr. Vinod Maroli, Chairman of IGBC Mysuru Chapter, said, “The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone in our collective effort to build a more sustainable future. By collaborating with the University of Mysore, we are integrating green building knowledge at the academic level and empowering students to become future-ready professionals in the green built environment. This partnership will not only strengthen capacity-building in the region but also inspire young minds to lead India’s sustainability movement with innovation, responsibility and purpose.”

Prof. Lokanath N. K., Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore, said, “This collaboration with IGBC is a meaningful step toward strengthening our commitment to sustainability-driven education. By introducing specialized learning on the green built environment, we are preparing our students to meet the emerging needs of industry and society. The University of Mysore has always championed knowledge that creates impact, and this partnership will enable our faculty and students to contribute actively to India’s sustainable development journey.”

Beyond curriculum development, the MoU places strong emphasis on experiential learning. Both institutions will collaborate on sustainability events and encourage student participation in IGBC’s flagship initiatives such as the Green Building Congress, World Green Building Week, and the Green Education Conclave. Students will also be supported in pursuing the IGBC Accredited Professional – Associate certification, enhancing their employability.

The partnership is expected to energize IGBC’s local chapter activities by creating opportunities for students to volunteer, network with industry experts and gain hands-on exposure through site visits and expert-led sessions. For IGBC, the collaboration represents another step in its mission to build a nationwide ecosystem of sustainability champions through academia-industry integration.
