Bengaluru, October 05, 2023: Sabre Corporation, a global travel industry software and technology provider, is collaborating with the not-for-profit organization United Way Bengaluru (UWBe) to enhance education standards and future career prospects for students in underprivileged areas of rural Karnataka. The initiative involves the creation of new science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) labs in six Government-run schools in Chikkaballapur, near Bengaluru. Sabre's support aims to benefit approximately 1,600 students from 26 villages annually, with a significant focus on around 1,000 students attending a girls-only school. The STEM labs seek to simplify complex subjects and concepts, providing students with practical learning experiences and opening up new avenues for education and careers.

“Sabre is committed to serving our communities and driving positive social change, so we’re incredibly proud to be involved in such a meaningful initiative,” said Sriram Gopalswamy, Vice President, Site Reliability Engineering, & Managing Director, Sabre India“Our STEM labs are especially important given the talent shortage facing the global technology industry. They will make a real difference by encouraging more children to develop an interest in science and technology, take up further studies in these subjects and, ultimately, pursue science or technology-based career paths. We hope that one day, we’ll be welcoming some of these students to join our journey with a career at Sabre as we continue to innovate for the future of travel.”

Sabre's Bengaluru capability centre, situated in India's tech hub, plays a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge solutions for the global travel industry and supporting Sabre's IT infrastructure worldwide. The teams in Bengaluru serve various travel-related entities, including airlines, hotels, travel agencies, and travel management companies. These newly established STEM labs go beyond traditional textbook learning, offering hands-on practical experiences to nurture critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and analytical thinking. The labs also emphasize teamwork and communication skills, with the goal of boosting students' confidence and reducing school drop-out rates. The inauguration of all six STEM labs took place during a special ceremony, where students showcased models they had created through learning activities in these new facilities. The event included representatives from Sabre, UWBe, the Deputy Director Public Instruction, and Block Education Officers.
