Bengaluru, August 16, 2023. In a significant collaboration, Himalaya Wellness Company, a prominent wellness brand dedicated to fostering health and well-being, has joined hands with the Southern Command of the Indian Army and the Society for Environment and Biodiversity Conservation (SEBC) to champion the visionary project, Tiranga Tunnel. This project aims to safeguard Pune's distinctive biodiversity and contribute to environmental preservation.
Recognizing the Indian Army's unwavering commitment to national security and environmental stewardship, the Tiranga Tunnel initiative aims to maintain the ecological equilibrium of Pune Cantonment. Situated in proximity to the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats, the region faces critical environmental challenges, including diminishing tree cover and escalating pollution levels. In partnership with the Himalaya Wellness Company, the Southern Command Indian Army envisions the Tiranga Tunnel as a historic initiative to protect Pune's natural heritage and advance ecological sustainability.
Positioned at the entrance of the Southern Command Headquarters in Pune, the Tiranga Tunnel serves as a tribute to both national unity and environmental consciousness. This monumental endeavor highlights their dedication to sustainable growth and ecological conservation. Adorned with twelve meticulously designed tunnels, each adorned with Saffron and White bougainvillea representing courage and purity, as well as Green money plants symbolizing prosperity, the tunnel becomes a testament to the unity binding our diverse nation. Standing at an impressive width of 13 meters and towering height of 4.5 meters, the Tiranga Tunnel stands as a majestic bridge bridging our glorious past and promising future. It commences from the statue of revered Field Marshal Manekshaw and extends to the Headquarters' entrance.
The inauguration of this initiative took place on India's 77th Independence Day, with Lieutenant General Ajai Kumar Singh, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding in Chief of the Southern Command, leading the historic event. This monumental step signifies the Indian Army's dedication to both national service and biodiversity conservation.
The Tiranga Tunnel is anticipated to yield several impactful outcomes, including enhanced biodiversity protection, heightened awareness regarding ecological preservation, and establishing a benchmark for sustainable development on military grounds.
