Power CPSEs contribute Rs 22.5 crore to Uttarakhand for disaster relief

New Delhi, 23 November 2021: Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) falling under the Ministry of Power came together and donated Rs 22.5 crore to Uttarakhand government on Tuesday to rebuild the infrastructures devastated by recent natural calamities like flood, cloudburst etc. With a donation of Rs 8 crore, NTPC took a lead in supporting the state government.

In the virtual presence of state chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Union Minister of Power RK Singh on Tuesday presented a cheque of Rs 22.5 Crores to Uttarakhand Minister of Disaster Management DS Rawat.

The union minister applauded the swift action taken by the Power sector CPSEs to support the state of Uttarakhand. He conveyed strong commitment of the central government to support Uttarakhand especially in this time of crisis. He also appreciated Power CPSEs for coming forward to support people in times of need as done during the COVID crisis as well.

On the occasion, Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the power minister and thanked all CPSEs for their commitment to the state in times of crisis.

Recently Uttarakhand witnessed unusually high and unprecedented rainfall in some places on 17 & 18 October, 2021, resulting in loss of lives and severe damage to infrastructure and public utilities in many districts. The Power Sector CPSEs, in their bid to stand united for restoration works in the flood hit Uttarakhand, contributed a sum of Rs.22.5 to the Uttar State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA).

Among the CPSEs, NTPC donated Rs 8 crore, REC donated Rs 5 crore to USDMA. Other CPSEs include PFC (Rs 4 crore), PGCIL (Rs 3.5 crore), NHPC (Rs 1 crore), THDC (Rs 50 lakh) and SJVN (Rs 50 lakh).

Activities under the project will be for reconstruction / restoration work in 478 schools in 8 districts which includes Bageshwar, Nanital, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, Chamoli, Almora, Champawat and Pithoragarh. Other than this, this money will be spent on 28 health Centres in 5 districts including Almora, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Nanital and Pithoragarh. The project will be executed by the USDMA from the financial support extended by the Power Sector CPSEs under CSR.
