Gurugram, Sep 30, 2023: Nagarro, a global digital engineering leader, has partnered with Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to initiate a novel model that unites private organizations, individuals, and government bodies to enhance road safety and inclusivity. The Sanath Road redevelopment project represents a collective effort involving GMDA, Nagarro, MSIL, Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG), DHBVN, and Raahgiri Foundation, aiming to establish a sustainability model that can serve as a global example. This transformation underscores a pivotal step towards people-centric road development, prioritizing sustainability, inclusivity, and commuter safety. The project's launch included a tree plantation drive along Sanath Road, with over 150 volunteers planting 600 saplings. This initiative reflects the commitment of both corporations and local authorities towards a sustainable and greener future.

Commenting on the occasion, Sh. Munish Sharma (IAS), Addl. CEO, GMDA, said, "The joint initiative signifies a remarkable leap forward in reshaping Gurugram's urban landscape. Sanath Road, a crucial lifeline of Gurugram, has now emerged as a symbol of sustainability, inclusivity, and safety." He added, "The success of this tree plantation drive underscores our dedication to nurturing a greener, environmentally conscious community for everyone using this thoroughfare."

The plantation drive is a significant milestone, as the initial road redevelopment plans necessitated the removal of approximately 300 trees. However, after thorough deliberations, Nagarro, MSIL, and government agencies devised a development plan that preserved the existing trees.

“We are happy to partner with Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and Nagarro for this pertinent initiative to redevelop the Sanath Road. The presence of Maruti Suzuki has ushered immense economic development and prosperity in the state of Haryana,” stated Mr. Rahul Bharti, Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.“At the same time, we are sensitive and conscious that the industrial activity must be congenial for the local communities. Keeping this guiding principle in mind, over the years, we have built a sustainable model ensuring all-round development of our stakeholders. This initiative in particular takes ahead our efforts.”

The planting efforts focus on indigenous species and strategies to combat waterlogging during the monsoon season. Sanath Road, a 2.4-kilometer stretch parallel to the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, serves as a crucial artery for Gurugram's residents and businesses. Passing through diverse areas, including industrial, residential, and Sarol Village, it accommodates around 30,000 daily pedestrians, constituting 70% of all users. Tragically, the road has witnessed 47 fatalities and numerous injuries over the past four years.Recognizing the urgency to address issues like potholes, safety, and lighting while upholding environmental sustainability, the project utilizes eco-friendly materials, water recharge systems, and solid waste management practices.

"Sanath Road is meant as a bold, new blueprint for sustainability, convenience and safety, whose influence we hope will spread beyond Gurugram to inspire a transformation nationwide. Our vision is to foster an environmentally conscious and resilient community," said Manas Human, CEO and Co-founder of Nagarro.

Sarika Panda Bhatt, Founder Trustee, Raahgiri Foundation, said “Sanath Road stands out as a truly unique and remarkably complex thoroughfare in Gurgaon, characterized by its diverse demographics and multifaceted usability. This road is poised to evolve into an exemplar of sustainability, inclusivity, and safety – not only within Gurgaon but across India as well. The successful redevelopment of Sanath Road serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that any street in Gurgaon, Haryana, or India can undergo a vibrant transformation to meet international standards.”

These initiatives contribute to fostering an environmentally conscious and resilient community in residential, commercial, and industrial areas. The project significantly enhances road safety by implementing 94 strategically positioned entry and exit points and integrating advanced technology such as CCTV cameras, smart lighting, and EV charging. Furthermore, it emphasizes environmental sustainability through tree preservation and the use of eco-friendly road materials. This collaborative effort commenced in 2020 when Maruti Suzuki India Limited and Nagarro signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GMDA, setting the stage for this impactful redevelopment initiative.
