The philanthropists have cumulatively donated Rs. 8,445 Crores which has increased by 59% compared FY2022.
Commenting on her philanthropic journey, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said, “Philanthropy is about setting an example and I think many of us, first-generation entrepreneurs who have built very successful businesses have come together to take a common approach to philanthropy. We all believe that every generation has to create new wealth and the wealth that you have created, a large part of it must go back into making the society better. It is this belief that has led me to focus my philanthropic efforts on Science, Research & Education; Social & Environment; and Art & Culture, with a zeal to change the world for the better."
Actively contributing towards the welfare of several causes across Art & Culture, Science, Research & Education, and Social & Environment, she believes these are factors that can Advance Humanity. Her contributions support scientific research, with a special focus on the biosciences, encourages the conservation and advancement of art and culture, and also backs institutions and initiatives actively working in areas related to the environment, sustainability, health, nutrition, diversity and inclusion.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the first Indian woman to join The Giving Pledge. She was the second Indian to join after Azim Premji. The Giving Pledge is a global initiative founded by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates in 2015 that encourages billionaires to give the majority of their wealth to philanthropic causes.
