Bengaluru, June 30, 2023 - Biocon Group, a global biopharmaceutical organization, successfully concluded its month-long 'Nature Positive' campaign commemorating World Environment Day. The initiative aimed to inspire employees and the public to embrace a Nature Positive mindset and promote environmental sustainability. The campaign included a tree plantation drive, environment awareness programs, beach clean-up drive, and a social media campaign.

As part of the campaign, the Biocon Foundation, the group's CSR arm, collaborated with the Malligavad Foundation for a tree plantation drive at Yarandahalli Lake. Over 1,000 saplings were planted, symbolizing the Group's commitment to environmental preservation and rejuvenation. The event brought together more than 200 volunteers, including Biocon Group employees, government school representatives, Hennagara Panchayat members, and the Forest Department.

Dr. Anupama Shetty, Mission Director of Biocon Foundation, said, "Biocon Foundation’s primary objective in planting 1,000 trees around Yarandahalli Lake is to enhance the tree cover, mitigate air and water pollution, combat soil erosion, and foster biodiversity. These efforts aim to establish a sustainable and healthy environment for the local community. Environmental stewardship is a fundamental aspect of the Biocon Group's business practices, as we recognize the vital need to conserve natural resources. We firmly believe that nature-based solutions, coupled with robust community engagement, are key to addressing environmental challenges effectively. By mobilizing collective action, we can create a lasting positive impact on our environment and nurture a healthier planet for generations to come."

Seema Ahuja, Global Head of Communications & Corporate Brand at Biocon Group, highlighted the concept of being 'Nature Positive' as adopting an approach of restoration and regeneration, reducing consumption, and minimizing environmental impact. She said, "Being ‘Nature Positive’ implies adopting an approach that includes restoring and regenerating rather than only extracting. Our contribution to nature should be greater than what we take from it. It also implies reducing our consumption and finding ways to reduce the adverse impact on the environment. Working with nature to create a more sustainable future is the key to a successful future for the generations to follow. At Biocon Group, we value the importance of being Nature Positive and hence rolled out an integrated campaign in June 2023 to sensitize people."

In line with the theme of #BeatPlasticPollution set by the United Nations, a beach clean-up and waste plastic collection campaign was organized at the Biocon Group's manufacturing site in Vishakhapatnam. This initiative demonstrated the company's commitment to responsible waste management. Additionally, over 1,000 saplings were distributed to Biocon employees for planting around Yarandahalli Lake, promoting a cleaner and healthier ecosystem in Karnataka.

Biocon Group harnessed the power of social media with their #BeNaturePositive campaign, reaching a wide audience on LinkedIn and Twitter. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about environmental preservation, ecological balance, resource consumption reduction, and sustainable alternatives. Through engaging content, individuals were encouraged to reflect on their ecological footprint and take positive action.
