Hazira-Surat, April 12th, 2023. ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has developed a Smart Anganwadi in Hazira village of Surat. Redeveloped under the ‘Padhega Bharat project’, the Anganwadi is a collaboration between the Government of Gujarat and AM/NS India. It was inaugurated on Monday by Dr. Anil Matoo, Head of Human Resource Operations, IR & Administration at AM/NS India, Education Inspector Himanshu Barot and Choryasi Taluka Development Officer Jaiminiben Patel.

The Smart Anganwadi is different from the usual government-run childcare centres in rural areas. It features a smart touch panel with interesting educational material for young learners. Its brightly painted walls have paintings of cartoon characters, birds and animals. There are also charts showing healthy eating habits, correct hand washing techniques, Gujarati and English alphabets, numbers 1 to 100, names of months, Gujarati rhymes and much more. The centre is also equipped with multiple toys and puzzle books, besides a water purifier, a new toilet block and an upgraded kitchen.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Anil Matoo, Head of Human Resource Operations, IR & Administration, AM/NS India said “We are happy to support the redevelopment of the Smart Anganwadi at Hazira for the benefit of the local communities. Education and child development are among the key focus areas of AM/NS India. We worked closely with the authorities and anganwadi workers to understand the requirements and planned accordingly. The new facilities will help meet the early educational needs of young children and also streamline the health and nutrition services for children in the area.”

AM/NS India also distributed educational kits to all the children on the occasion. Also present on the occasion, were Choryasi CDPO Jasmineben, Hazira Sarpanch Madhuben Patel, deputy Sarpanch Rohit Patel, Choryasi Taluka Panchayat member Satish Patel, AM/NS India’s Cluster HR Head Lakshman Iyer, AM/NS India’s Lead CSR Kiransinh Sindha, local villagers and AM/NS India employees.
