Mumbai, Nov 14, 2024: On the occasion of World Kindness Day, crowdfunding platform Ketto put together a Kindness Report that showcases how Indians donated in 2024. This year's report highlights the nation's ever-expanding culture of giving, with data points that reveal the remarkable ways in which people came together to make a positive change.
Ketto's platform facilitated a donation every 15 seconds, with an impressive 55% being first-time donors this year — signaling India's passion for kindness. This enthusiasm wasn't limited by region, as West India was in the lead with a substantial 78.71% of contributions, followed by South India with 13.39%.
Maharashtra stood out with an 18.98% surge in donors, setting a new benchmark for charitable giving. And 90% of the contributions came from UPI! That's the effect of digital India!
Ketto received donations from 13 different countries, with the USA being the superpower in giving the most!
A generous donor from Varanasi contributed Rs 11 lakh in one go, while the Chakrabarty family raised Rs 5 lakh for Tarun's heart treatment within just 21h 45m 58 seconds.
Between 11 pm and midnight, kindness peaked as donors loved to make a donation in this time frame. From education and child welfare to soldier welfare and senior citizen support, people rallied around causes close to their hearts, with donations for soldier welfare surging by 2675% and support for senior citizens growing by 484%.
Donations for food and hunger relief also saw a remarkable nearly 100% increase! The data also revealed the unique motivations behind giving for men and women — men primarily supported child welfare and food relief, while women focused on medical causes, illustrating diverse paths to meaningful change
A Mumbai-based donor's 1,703-day streak of continuous giving and a Varanasi donor's Rs 11 lakh contribution in one go made new records on the platform.
Cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore emerged as India's top hubs of generosity, while Thiruvananthapuram's dedication to fighting hunger and Mumbai's passion for animal welfare demonstrated how local priorities can inspire acts of compassion nationwide.
These remarkable statistics demonstrate the extraordinary capacity of the Indian people to drive positive change through generosity, highlighting the power of collective action to create a better world.
