Gurugram, February 5, 2025: NatWest Group India, in partnership with NGO Saahas, has launched Project बिनMalba to address the growing issue of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste in Gurugram. The initiative aims to introduce sustainable and scalable waste management solutions to mitigate the environmental impact of urbanization.

Speaking at the launch, Ruchika Panesar, Country Head, NatWest Group India, stated, “We are happy to launch Project बिनMalba, a dedicated initiative to address the growing challenge of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste in Gurugram. This initiative embodies our commitment to environmental sustainability, responsible waste management, and a greener future. Over the next 16 months, we aim to develop and implement sustainable, scalable solutions, starting with select areas in Zone 3 of Gurugram, paving the way for a cleaner and more efficient C&D waste management system.”

Project बिनMalba’s objectives include:
- Raising awareness among Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), waste collection agencies, and civil contractors about sustainable C&D waste management.
- Diverting approximately 2,000 metric tons of C&D waste for recycling and streamlining collection and transportation to reduce illegal dumping.
- Providing a recommendation report to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) to help develop a city-wide scalable waste management strategy.

The launch event featured a panel discussion with key stakeholders, including Dr. Balpreet Singh (Additional Commissioner, MCG Gurugram), Subhash Chander Yadav (Chief Forest Officer), Archana Tripathi (CEO, Saahas), Dinesh Kumar (Project Head, C&D Plant Gurugram), Ankur Bisen (author of ‘Wasted’), and Akshat Chadha (Urban Planner, Oasis Design). Discussions emphasized the need for responsible disposal, recycling, and citizen participation to ensure sustainable urban development.

Archana Tripathi, CEO, Saahas, highlighted the importance of stakeholder awareness, drawing from a similar pilot project in Bengaluru. She noted that "citizens, contractors, and waste generators need a clearer understanding of their roles in C&D waste disposal. Accessible information on disposal mechanisms and a structured collection and transportation system—especially for non-bulk waste generators—are crucial to prevent illegal dumping and promote responsible waste management."

The event saw active participation from RWAs, corporate bodies, and citizens concerned about the environmental impact of unchecked waste disposal. Experts at the event also highlighted potential health hazards for residents and the threat to Aravalli’s biodiversity due to improper waste management.

The initiative aligns with efforts to improve waste management in Gurugram and supports broader environmental sustainability and circular economy practices.
