Bangalore, October 07, 2023. MTR Foods, a leading packaged foods provider, has partnered with Myrada, a non-governmental organization specializing in underdeveloped and drought-prone regions, to establish a water conservation capacity of 40 million litres in Karnataka. This initiative focuses on enhancing local water storage and supply by renovating and constructing village ponds to harvest rainwater and recharge groundwater. MTR Foods is investing Rs. 10.6 million in this project to make a substantial impact on the region.

The project encompasses the Bommasandra area, where efforts have been made to bolster water availability. Rooftop harvesting systems and recharge pits have been implemented in three local schools. Additionally, existing water ponds have been renovated, and a new tank/pond has been constructed in Anekal. The resulting capacity will directly benefit approximately 5,000 individuals and households, with the potential to replenish 40 million liters of water in the near future. This initiative is poised to have a positive influence on the local ecosystem and the well-being of the community.

Commenting on the same, Sunay Bhasin, Chief Commercial Officer, MTR Foods Pvt. Ltd.  said, "We believe it's important to consistently support our community. The water conservation project in Karnataka is a part of our sustainability initiatives and aims to help improve water access in the area. It will benefit local households and the respective schools with more water now being made available. We hope that this improved access will enable better quality of life in the region and positively impact the ecosystem."

Previously, on World Environment Day 2023, MTR Foods reaffirmed its environmental commitment by conducting a comprehensive cleanup at Madiwala Lake. The initiative aimed not only to cleanse the area but also to raise awareness about responsible waste management and the significance of preserving natural water bodies.
