Lay’s Unveils Film Highlighting Pepsico India’s Commitment To Water Positivity

New Delhi, June 6, 2024: On World Environment Day 2024, Lay's has launched its film, ‘Drops of Joy’, which highlights a special process that supports PepsiCo India’s commitment to water positivity. Through this, 80% of the water inherent in potatoes is reused, which would otherwise evaporate.

The film showcases PepsiCo India’s commitment to eco-friendly practices in its manufacturing plants in West Bengal (Kolkata) and Uttar Pradesh (Kosi).

During frying, about 80% of the water naturally found in potatoes evaporates and is typically wasted. Lay's, however, employs a distinctive process to reclaim and convert this vapor back into water. What makes this potato special is its ability to use its own water to create water, embodying the true spirit of a superhero at Lay’s and contributing to its goal of achieving water positivity in its facilities. This process is beautifully illustrated in an animated film called ‘Drops of Joy’ by Lay's, which aims to evoke feelings of joy, inspire hope, and foster a deep emotional connection with the audience.

Underscoring the need for such an initiative, Rinkesh Satija, Senior Director & Supply Chain Head India Foods Operation, PepsiCo India, said, “At PepsiCo, innovation is not just a goal; it's part of our DNA. When we launched this project, our aim was clear: to pioneer sustainable solutions that reduce our overall water footprint while delivering on our commitment to environmental stewardship. With ‘Lay's Drops of Joy’, we aim to set a new standard for responsible manufacturing practices within our industry. This initiative exemplifies our unwavering dedication to innovation and sustainability, ensuring that every step we take forward is a step towards a more sustainable future.”

“Celebrating the launch of ‘Drops of Joy’ on World Environment Day is not just about showcasing our dedication to sustainability—it's about embodying our brand's purpose. This project exemplifies our ongoing commitment to sustainability and showcases our efforts to conserve water and reduce our environmental footprint.  At PepsiCo India, purpose isn't just a statement; it's woven into the fabric of everything we do, driving us to innovate, inspire, and create a better world for generations to come." said Saumya Rathor, Category lead - Potato Chips (Lay’s), PepsiCo India.

As part of the ‘Positive Value Chain’ pillar under PepsiCo Positive (pep+) - a strategic end-to-end transformation towards sustainability – PepsiCo is committed to becoming net water positive by 2030.
