Ramanagara, November 2, 2023: Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB), a prominent FMCG company in India, has successfully rejuvenated two lakes in the Ramanagara district, namely Amavasya Kere and ThubinKere. These restored water bodies were dedicated to the local community in a ceremony led by Mr. H.C. Balakrishna, MLA of the Magadi constituency. The revitalization of these lakes promises to breathe new life into the local agricultural landscape and provide support to both agrarian communities and natural habitats.

Amavasya Kere and ThubinKere, situated to the east of Bidadi in the Ramanagara district, were once thriving bodies of water that played a crucial role in supporting local agriculture and sustaining a diverse ecosystem. However, the rapid industrial and agricultural development in the region had a detrimental impact on their natural state, resulting in declining environmental health.

The lake restoration project undertaken by HCCB diligently addressed various challenges, including reduced water capacity due to siltation, weakened embankments, unclear boundaries, invasive vegetation affecting the ecosystem, and diminished habitat diversity. HCCB tackled these issues by implementing de-weeding and desilting processes to enhance capacity, reinforcing embankments, creating nesting islands to support wildlife, establishing water management trenches, installing groundwater recharge wells, and adding protective fencing to preserve the lake boundaries.

At the inauguration of the restored lakes in ThubinKere, Mr H C Balakrishna, MLA of Magadi constituency, remarked, "The remarkable restoration of these lakes, spearheaded by HCCB, showcases what dedication and vision can accomplish. We're not just replenishing water bodies; we're ensuring that our community and its natural surroundings flourish together. This initiative by HCCB is a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of dedicated action."

Echoing the sentiment, Mr Himanshu Priyadarshi, Chief Public Affairs, Communications & Sustainability Officer said " Our ethos at HCCB transcends business metrics; it's rooted in forging lasting positive change. The revival of Amavasya Kere and ThubinKere underscores our unwavering dedication to the environment and the communities we are privileged to serve. Every step we take in this direction not only rejuvenates nature but also reinforces our commitment to fostering a harmonious coexistence with the land and its people."

Thanks to the recent southwest monsoons, both lakes have reached full capacity, promising improved groundwater percolation, bolstered agricultural practices, and a thriving habitat teeming with local wildlife.
