Chennai, Sept 10, 2024: FMCG company Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) in partnership with the Y4D Foundation has activated a Tailoring Training Unit to empower women from the local community in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi town. The initiative aims to equip 40 women with specialised tailoring skills, enabling them to achieve economic independence and professional growth.

The Tailoring Training Unit is a comprehensive 40-day program that not only provides the essential skills for employment but also imparts entrepreneurial knowledge to help participants start their own businesses. HCCB will provide each participant with a personal sewing machine, while the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, Government of Tamil Nadu, will offer additional support including materials and access to immediate employment opportunities through facilitated work orders.

Speaking at the inauguration recently, P Geetha Jeevan, Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration with HCCB, stating, “We are happy to see such collaborative efforts aimed at empowering the women of Thoothukudi. The Tailoring Training Unit initiative will impact hundreds of women and pave the way for positive change in the region. This initiative will empower them to secure jobs in garment manufacturing units or obtain self-help entrepreneurship loans to open small tailoring units.”

Himanshu Priyadarshi, Chief Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Officer, HCCB, said, “At HCCB, we recognise the importance of community empowerment and skill development for women. Through this partnership, we are committed to transforming the lives of these women, ensuring their success not only benefits them directly but also creates ripple effects that significantly contribute to our shared goal of fostering a more inclusive and prosperous society."
