Leh, September 07, 2023. Bisleri International, a packaged drinking water company in India, has completed the restoration of the Ladakh Reservoir located in the Kyagar region of Tegar Village, Nubra Valley, Leh. This project, undertaken by Bisleri, aims to enhance the local community's resilience and mitigate water scarcity risks. The primary goal of the prokject was to rejuvenate the Kyagar Panchayat Reservoir, fortifying the region's water infrastructure to meet agricultural demands. The reservoir, with dimensions of 135 meters in length, 90 meters in width, and 2 meters in depth, underwent extensive desilting and repairs to optimize its capacity and operational efficiency. The project also involved necessary maintenance of the water canals, spanning over 3 kilometers.

Bisleri International's efforts to restore the reservoir hold several advantages. It has substantially increased storage capacity to 24.3 million litres, providing a reliable water source essential for the agricultural needs of 210 families and approximately 1,050 households. This development supports crop irrigation, including wheat, barley, apples, apricots, cherries, as well as various vegetables such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, mustard seeds, beans, peas, carrots, cabbage, and green vegetables. This initiative ensures consistent agricultural activities throughout the year, extending beyond the monsoon season, thereby enhancing crop productivity. Additionally, it contributes to livestock care and improves sanitation facilities within the community. This latest initiative aligns with Bisleri International's 'Greener Promise' philosophy, which focuses on addressing climate change, ensuring universal access to safe water, and establishing a resilient circular economy. As part of its commitment to building a more sustainable future, Bisleri has initiated a water stewardship project called Project Nayi Umeed. This project has successfully restored over 200 check dams in Gujarat and Maharashtra, resulting in the collection of an impressive 22 billion liters of water. These efforts have had a widespread impact, benefiting more than 124 villages and nearly 40,000 farming families.

Commenting on the company’s vision to foster sustainable development in the Himalayan valleys, Angelo George, CEO, Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd., said, “We are in constant pursuit of creating a greener future by implementing initiatives that emphasize the well-being of people and the planet. Our goal is to empower communities through comprehensive programs that address various facets of life.
