Chennai, Aug 3, 2024: Pure-play digital business company Altimetrik in collaboration with NGO Society for the Development of Economically Weaker Section (SODEWS) has adopted three government schools in the Tirupatur district of Tamil Nadu to help secure the Right to Education through improved facilities.

Together with SODEWS, Altimetrik has constructed new toilets and renovated the computer lab at the Government Higher Secondary School in Madavalam. They also built a separate classroom for the Computer Lab and the Library at Panchayet Union Middle School in Chinna Goundanur.

Senior leaders from Altimetrik, along with officials from the Education Department, inaugurated all the three facilities on August 2. Altimetrik volunteers have also contributed to the event by painting the newly constructed sites, creating a welcoming and friendly environment for the children.

Under this joint initiative, since 2022, two schools – Panchayet Union Middle School, Chinna Goundanur, and Panchayet Union Primary School, Mullai – have been adopted with the approval of the Education Department. In 2024, Govt Boys Higher Secondary School in Madavalam, was adopted. The schools had lower enrolment rates and lacked basic amenities which hindered children coming to school regularly. The safety & Hygiene of the children were given priority, and the following support was provided in the school.

Key enhancements have been made to the school infrastructure, including the construction of separate toilet blocks for boys and girls, renovation of dilapidated roofs, and ensuring a safe and hygienic learning environment. This has significantly improved the overall quality of the educational experience for students.

In terms of staffing, six additional teaching staff and two cleaning staff have been appointed to guarantee comprehensive educational and maintenance support. This increase in staff has enabled the schools to provide a more personalized and supportive learning environment for students.

The schools have also been digitally empowered with the establishment of computer labs in all three schools, including a dedicated computer classroom at Chinna Goundanur. Furthermore, summer computer coaching has been extended to all local children, providing them with equitable access to computer education and enhancing their digital literacy skills.

To promote literacy, libraries have been created in two schools to instil a love for reading among students. This has helped to foster a culture of reading and learning, and has had a positive impact on students' academic performance.

Safety and engagement have also been prioritized, with the construction of a podium for school events and the repair of damaged compound walls. This has created a more secure and engaging learning environment, and has helped to promote student regularity and participation.

The impact of these enhancements has been significant, with a 15% increase in enrolment rates, zero dropout rates, and a shift in enrolment trends from private to government schools due to superior facilities. Additionally, student regularity and engagement have improved, and rural children now have equitable access to computer education.
