New Delhi, Oct 28, 2024: Akasa Air has taken several measures which are aimed at contributing to the environment.

As environmental awareness rises, particularly among younger generations, the demand for sustainable travel continues to grow.

Akasa Air’s brand new 737 MAX fleet is central to its mission of becoming an environmentally progressive airline, boasting the youngest and greenest fleet in Indian skies. Powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines and advanced technology winglets, the 737 MAX delivers impressive fuel efficiency, reducing fuel use and emissions by 20% compared to older aircraft. Additionally, the Boeing 737 is designed to be quieter, with a 50% smaller noise footprint, while also offering 20% lower airframe maintenance costs, further enhancing its sustainability and operational efficiency.

Akasa Air’s strategic initiatives seek to manage its ecological footprint both in the air and on the ground. A key decision taken by the airline was to move away from the ceremonial water canon salutes at flight and route inaugurations to conserve water which has resulted in saving approximately 4,64,000 litres of water to date.

Akasa Air embraces recycling techniques, and this was a key consideration while designing crew uniforms. The trousers and jacket fabric are specially developed for Akasa using recycled polyester fabric which is made from pet bottle plastic salvaged from marine waste. Moreover, no plastic has been used in the manufacturing of crew shoes, instead, the shoe sole is made from recycled rubber.

The airline has taken several initiatives to reduce single-use plastic onboard and on ground. Packaging for all perishable meals is 100 per cent recyclable and made from paper which is ethically sourced from sustainably grown crops. Akasa Air has adopted DigiYatra across 13 major airports across the country, promoting paperless travel thereby contributing to a reduction in both paper waste and overall environmental impact.
