Jharkhand, July 14, 2025: On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, Tata Motors announced the successful completion of training and certification for its first all-girls batch of tribal youth in motor mechanics under its flagship Kaushalya Programme. This milestone initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing gender inclusion in the automotive servicing sector.
The batch comprised 13 young women from three gram panchayats across Chandil, Jamshedpur, and Potka. These participants underwent 50 days of intensive classroom training focused on Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle components, followed by a one-year On-the-Job Training (OJT) at authorised service stations and dealerships. The programme included full support for the trainees, including uniforms, safety gear, accommodation, and a monthly stipend.
Most of the girls in the programme had previously dropped out of school and faced financial hardships. Their entry into the traditionally male-dominated motor mechanic trade was met with societal skepticism and concerns over safety. To address these barriers, Tata Motors, in collaboration with Vikas Samities (a company-run society), engaged with local communities through counselling sessions and outreach involving families, educators, and local leaders.
“The introduction of an All-Girls Batch under the Kaushalya Programme is a conscious step towards empowering more young women—especially those from underserved communities—to step confidently into the traditionally male-dominated field of automotive servicing. By creating a safe, supportive, and inspiring learning environment, we have enabled the girls from tribal communities in Jharkhand to discover their potential and pursue meaningful careers. These young women have not only challenged stereotypes but have also proven that with the right guidance and opportunity, they can excel in roles once considered beyond their reach. Their journey reflects the transformative power of belief, skill-building, and inclusive development,” said Vinod Kulkarni, Head of CSR at Tata Motors.
The Kaushalya Programme is designed to build employability among underserved communities by providing them with job-relevant skills and industry exposure. The success of this all-girls batch demonstrates the programme’s potential to promote both social transformation and sustainable livelihoods.
