New Delhi, June 27, 2025: Sense International, in collaboration with Sense International India and global partners, has launched the Global Deafblindness Resource Hub (GRH), a multilingual online platform designed to provide accessible and practical information on deafblindness. The launch coincides with the inaugural International Day of Deafblindness, officially recognized by the United Nations and observed globally today on the birth anniversary of Helen Keller.
Supported by the Nelumbo Foundation, the GRH aims to address a long-standing gap in reliable, centralized resources for the deafblind community, which includes over 15 million people globally. Until now, information on deafblindness has been fragmented and often inaccessible to those who need it most.
The virtual launch event featured a demonstration of the platform’s user-friendly and accessible design, including its multilingual features. It was followed by a panel discussion on the theme “Bridging the Information Gap: Accessibility, Inclusion, and the Right to Know,” with inputs from individuals with deafblindness, caregivers, and sector professionals.
“The launch of the Global Resource Hub marks a defining moment not just for India, but for the world. For far too long, accessible and practical information on deafblindness has been fragmented or out of reach. This Hub bridges that gap by offering a one-stop, multilingual platform designed for families, educators, professionals and policymakers alike. Unveiling it on the first-ever International Day of Deafblindness makes the moment even more meaningful as it's a global tribute to the resilience, rights and dignity of deafblind community, their carers and those working with them,” said Uttam Kumar, CEO of Sense International India.
The Hub provides a comprehensive library of training materials, research, toolkits, personal stories, and real-world resources. It is currently available in seven languages: English, Hindi, Spanish, Bengali, Nepali, Romanian, and Swahili. Additional Indian and international language versions are under development to further expand accessibility.
Designed to serve multiple stakeholders—including parents, educators, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and grassroots workers—the platform is envisioned as a continuously evolving space that welcomes collaboration from experts and organisations around the world.
The establishment of the Global Deafblindness Resource Hub aligns with the recent UN resolution, co-sponsored by 99 countries, officially recognizing June 27 as the International Day of Deafblindness—a milestone for a community that has historically been underserved.
