Gurugram, July 10, 2025: Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) has launched its first Samsung Skill Development Centre at the Government Polytechnic in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), Karnataka. The centre, established under SSIR’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to advance practical education and skill development in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Cybersecurity, Robotics, Automation, and Core Engineering disciplines.

The initiative is designed to equip students from rural areas with industry-relevant knowledge and skills. As part of this effort, five state-of-the-art laboratories have been set up at the institution, each outfitted with modern tools to support hands-on learning. The multidisciplinary approach aims to foster innovation and build a strong foundation in emerging technologies for students enrolled at the polytechnic.

“This initiative marks a pivotal step in enabling a hands-on experience for students in rural Karnataka. We fully support the Government of India’s mission on skill development and are committed to bridging the digital divide. By empowering students with knowledge in AI, IoT, and other emerging technologies, we aim to create limitless opportunities and secure India’s place in the global digital economy,” said Balajee Sowrirajan, Executive Vice President & Managing Director, SSIR.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including Dr. Roopkala M Shashidhar, Chairperson, Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation; Smt. Manjushree N, Commissioner, Department of Collegiate and Technical Education; Smt. Geethanjali S, Principal, Government Polytechnic KGF; along with over 500 students, faculty members, and representatives from Samsung and the Karnataka government.

This development builds on Samsung’s prior collaboration with the state government under the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) program, which has provided AI and IoT training to more than 1,000 students and teachers across 37 polytechnic colleges in Karnataka. The SIC initiative also included infrastructure support, provision of hands-on learning kits, and structured curriculum-based training modules.

Through this extended engagement, Samsung continues its commitment to strengthening India’s technological talent pool and fostering a culture of innovation, especially in underserved regions. The new centre at KGF is expected to serve as a model for similar future initiatives across the country.
