New Delhi, July 22, 2025: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commenced admissions for the first batch of students at its newly launched Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) in Sonipat, Haryana. This marks the company’s fourth JIM in India and its second in Haryana after Uncha Majra.

The Sonipat centre, set up at the Master Atul Government ITI, will offer training in four trades: Mechanic Motor Vehicle (MMV), Machinist, Welder, and Fitter. With an annual intake capacity of over 100 students, the institute will begin its first academic session in September 2025. Maruti Suzuki has invested over ₹10 crore in establishing the new JIM.

Affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and accredited by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), JIM Sonipat will operate under a dual system of training, combining classroom instruction with practical, on-the-job experience. In addition to the NCVT curriculum, the program incorporates modules on safety, quality, discipline, and kaizen—Japanese principles of continuous improvement.

Applauding the company’s skill development initiatives, Shri Gaurav Gautam, Minister of State for Youth Empowerment & Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), Sports (Independent Charge), and Law & Legislative, said, “Maruti Suzuki's commitment to skill development in Haryana through its state-of-the-art JIMs at Uncha Majra and now at Sonipat is truly commendable. By training youth and equipping them with industry-relevant skills, the Company is paving the way for their brighter future and contributing to Haryana's development and economic growth. This is in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ‘Skill India Mission’ and I applaud Maruti Suzuki’s efforts in this space.”

Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki, said, “We are committed to supporting the Government of India’s ‘Skill India Mission’ by training youth and making them industry ready. After setting up our first JIM in Haryana at Uncha Majra, we are thankful to the Government of Haryana for providing us the opportunity to set up the second JIM in the state. We are confident that both JIMs will prepare the students for opportunities across the automobile ecosystem and contribute to the progress of Haryana.”

He added, “By incorporating principles of safety, quality, and the acclaimed Japanese practices of discipline and continuous improvement, JIM Sonipat will not only enhance employability but also inculcate progressive work ethic among the students.”

The institute was established through a Memorandum of Agreement with the Government of Haryana, which provided the land and building. Maruti Suzuki contributed by upgrading civil infrastructure, setting up an assembly line for real-life simulation, providing equipment, designing training modules, and managing overall operations.

The JIM initiative stems from a 2016 collaboration between the Governments of Japan and India aimed at training 30,000 youth in manufacturing skills over a decade. More than 2,100 students have already been trained across the company’s other three JIMs located in Mehsana, Uncha Majra, and Gandhinagar.

Maruti Suzuki’s broader skill development efforts include support for 23 ITIs, setting up 31 Automobile Skill Enhancement Centres (ASECs) across India, and high-voltage training equipment in 130 ITIs. As of FY 2024-25, the company’s total CSR investment in skill development exceeds ₹450 crore.
