Licious Demonstrates Commitment to Sustainable Growth, Achieves Plastic Neutrality for FY22

New Delhi, June 02, 2023. Licious, a well-known meat and seafood brand in India, has announced its commitment to plastic neutrality as part of its sustainability efforts. In collaboration with sustainability partner Recykal, Licious has achieved significant progress by becoming plastic-neutral for the fiscal year 2022. 

By utilizing Recykal's Plastic Neutrality solution, the brand successfully recovered 530 metric tonnes of plastic waste, effectively offsetting its plastic footprint for the year. This accomplishment highlights Licious' dedication to sustainability and responsible waste management practices, as it actively prevents a substantial amount of plastic waste from ending up in landfills.

Rajesh K, Chief Sustainability and Quality Officer at Licious, emphasized the brand's commitment to setting new industry standards and raising benchmarks. He also said, “We have been industry leaders in implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards across our operations. Our pledge towards being plastic waste neutral marks a milestone in our journey of being a responsible & sustainable brand. We are glad to play our part this World Environment Day and join in supporting global efforts to #BeatPlasticPollution through Recykal’s digitally transparent sustainability solutions we aim to reaffirm our commitment to building a brand with a purpose - a purpose that safeguards the interest of mankind and the planet.”

Licious' plastic neutrality initiative has had a positive impact on the environment, generating approximately 149,154 kWh of waste-to-energy, saving 3,120 cubic meters of water, reducing 355 metric tonnes of CO2e emissions, and saving 494,000 liters of oil. These achievements highlight Licious' commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and promoting sustainability.

Ekta Narain, Co-Founder & Chief Business Officer of Recykal, commended Licious for achieving plastic neutrality and surpassing extended producer responsibility compliance. Narain emphasized the importance of organizations proactively addressing the plastic waste crisis through responsible waste management practices. The partnership between Licious and Recykal exemplifies the power of collaboration in creating a more sustainable future.

Licious emphasizes its vision of sustainability by surpassing mandatory compliance requirements. The brand's commitment aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and it has obtained notable certifications, including ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management, ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management, and the SA 8000:2014 Social Accountability certification. Notably, it is the first Indian fresh animal protein brand and one of only ten companies worldwide in its category to attain the SA 8000 certification.
