New Delhi, October 07, 2023. Gurushala, a teacher capacity building platform, an initiative by Indus Towers Ltd. and Vodafone Idea Foundation and implemented by Pratham Education Foundation, in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha SEMAM, has introduced an Education Leadership Development Program in Meghalaya. The program commenced on September 25th, 2023, at Shillong Public School, East Khasi Hills, benefitting a total of 600 teachers and school leaders. The program spans across six districts of Meghalaya, starting with the East Khasi Hills District and concluding in South Garo Hills on October 13th, 2023.
The Education Leadership Development Program kicks off with face-to-face training sessions centered on the theme "Identifying and Bridging the Learning Gaps." These sessions are complemented by a series of virtual training sessions, ensuring continuous support and professional development. The aim is to transform schools into "Centers of Excellence" by shifting the role of teachers towards proactive practices that facilitate school transformation. This transformation is a long-term endeavour aimed at equipping education leaders with the skills and knowledge to address real-life challenges in schools and promote excellence in education.
The initial training days focused on understanding learning gaps, recognizing them, and implementing effective methods to minimize these gaps in students. This aligns with the broader objective of improving students' educational outcomes. Subsequently, instructors emphasized the principles outlined in the National Education Policy 2020, advocating for a shift away from memorization-based learning in favor of fostering conceptual understanding, nurturing unique skill sets, and promoting experiential and skill-based learning. The overarching goal is to reduce learning gaps in students, with teachers introduced to innovative strategies and approaches applicable in their classrooms.
The collaborative effort between Gurushala and Samagra Shiksha SEMAM underscores a commitment to strengthening education in Meghalaya, enhancing educator capabilities, and contributing to holistic development.
