Ferrero Group Highlights Progress in Global and India Sustainability Efforts with 2024 Report

New Delhi, July 25, 2025: The Ferrero Group has released its 16th Sustainability Report, outlining its ongoing progress toward responsible sourcing, decarbonisation, circular packaging, and community empowerment across global operations and in India.

Executive Chairman Giovanni Ferrero reaffirmed the company's commitment to integrating sustainability into its long-term business strategy. “Sustainability is deeply embedded in Ferrero’s long-term strategy. It’s a fundamental driver of business resilience and shapes the decisions we make, as we grow responsibly,” he stated. “In the face of global challenges, particularly climate change, our commitment remains clear: to source responsibly, innovate boldly, and safeguard the natural world for future generations.”

Lapo Civiletti, Chief Executive Officer, added, “We made steady progress on our sustainability agenda during fiscal year 2023/2024. I am particularly proud of the ongoing steps we are taking to achieve our long-term commitments. We have successfully advanced our sustainability journey while maintaining strong financial stewardship across the company.”

Key Global Highlights from the 2024 Report:

  • 97% traceability achieved for cocoa and palm oil, and 94% for hazelnuts.
  • Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduced by 21.7% compared to the 2017/18 baseline.
  • 90% of electricity used in manufacturing and warehousing sourced from renewables.
  • 92.1% of packaging designed to be recyclable, reusable, or compostable.
  • A 13% reduction in plastic-to-product ratio, including major packaging redesigns in North America and China.

Initiatives such as the launch of Nutella Plant-Based jars (made from 60% recycled glass) and the Kinder Joy paper spoon also mark Ferrero’s efforts in circular innovation. All Ferrero plants have been certified under the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards, and the company continues to promote healthy consumption, with over 85% of products at or below 130 kcal per serving.

Community Impact and Inclusion
Ferrero maintained partnerships with global organisations like the International Labour Organization and Save the Children, and its Kinder Joy of Moving program has reached 3.7 million children across 35 countries. In 2024, a new partnership with the Organization of American States was launched to foster inclusion and equity through sports.

India-Specific Sustainability Progress
Ferrero India also reported significant strides:

  • 97.95% of packaging is now designed to be recyclable, reusable, or compostable.
  • 28% reduction in plastic footprint and 4651 tons reduction in carbon emissions since 2020/21.
  • 59.41% reduction in water intensity since 2019/20, with a 14.64% decrease from the previous year.
  • A 30,000 sq. metre solar panel installation now contributes 13% of the factory's energy load, reducing carbon emissions by 2050 tons annually.
  • Over 14,000 children are currently engaged in the Kinder Joy of Moving program in Maharashtra.
  • The company reiterated its commitment to collaborative, innovation-led sustainability strategies designed to bring measurable impact at scale.
